Beatty brings more than 20 years of experience from within DFI’s Securities Division to the job

Olympia – The Washington State Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) announces Bill Beatty as the agency’s new Securities Administrator, replacing Mike Stevenson who retired earlier this year. Beatty has been with the Securities Division since 1986, most recently serving as a Program Manager and General Counsel.

“We’re really pleased Bill is stepping into this new role at DFI,” DFI Director Scott Jarvis said. “Bill’s been an integral part of DFI for more than 20 years. His firm grasp on the issues facing regulators during these turbulent times will help the Division — and DFI as a whole — continue to thrive.”

Beatty is a graduate of the University of Puget Sound and the Seattle University School of Law. He joined DFI in 1986 as a Staff Attorney. He has since served as a Financial Legal Examiner 5, Associate Legal Counsel, General Counsel and Program Manager.

Beatty brings to the position a variety of knowledge and experiences, including:

  • Creating and implementing the Division of Securities Customer Service Unit.
  • Drafting securities-related legislation, regulations, statements of policy and interpretive opinions.
  • Supervising the Division’s registration, licensing, exemption, and opinion functions.
  • Testifying before legislative committees.
  • Participation on and leadership of various North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) committees and project groups.
  • Familiarity with stakeholder groups, including the WSBA Securities Committee, the Securities Interested Persons Group, and industry representatives.

“I’ve enjoyed my many years with DFI and look forward to serving as the Administrator of DFI’s Division of Securities for many more,” Beatty said. “The Division has many talented and hard-working staff who are dedicated to protecting Washington’s investors. I accept the new challenges this job will bring with pleasure and pride.”

Beatty assumes his position as DFI’s newest Securities Administrator on Friday, July 16.
