Mortgage Help After A Disaster

Information and resources for those impacted by a disaster.

Continue Paying Your Mortgage

Important: You must continue to make your mortgage payments even if your home is damaged.

If you stop paying without approval from your lender, you risk damaging your credit or facing foreclosure.

If You Cannot Pay Your Mortgage

Contact your mortgage servicer immediately. You can usually find their contact information on your monthly mortgage statement.

Ask them if you qualify for mortgage forbearance.

What Is Mortgage Forbearance?

Forbearance is a temporary agreement with your lender to pause or reduce your payments during a financial hardship.

  • It is not forgiveness. You must pay back the missed payments later.
  • Ask how repayment works. Understand the terms before you sign.
