About

The senior citizen investor met a person online claiming to be an individual named Olivia Harper (“Harper”). Harper moved their conversation to WhatsApp, convinced the victim to wire $10,000 internationally, and then directed the victim in making investments on a website impersonating Avatrade.com

The investments purportedly grew to $35,000, but the victim was told that they’d need to pay an additional $7,700 in fees to withdraw their funds. However, Harper explicitly told the victim before they invested that the fees would be deducted from their profits. When the investor confronted Harper about this, he lost access to the website and was blocked by her on WhatsApp. To date, the investor has been unable to withdraw their funds.
