OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) is pleased to work in partnership with Washington Army One Source, Spokane Red Cross, the Better Business Bureau, DSHS, SNAP, DCS, WSCPA and Chase Bank to offer an evening of financial education and assistance for military personnel and their families.

"It is critical that we offer assistance to our men and women of the military and the family members who support them," DFI Director Scott Jarvis said. "These families are already besieged with sequestration pay cuts as our nation struggles to rebound from recession. When you consider that many of these families may have both adults’ income affected by the cuts, you’re looking at a 40% household pay cut – for the men and women who serve our country. The least we can do is give them the tools they need to make their money go further, gain some financial security and plan for the future of their children."

The free event will include workshops for youth and adults on budgeting and saving, how to avoid identity theft and scams, disaster preparation and the importance of renters’ insurance, credit, home buying, child support and retirement 101. Dinner will be provided courtesy of Chase Bank.

"This is a great opportunity for Service members, spouses, and their children to get some free financial education and meet other military families living in the Spokane area," Army OneSource CSC, Angela Traina added.
