Internet Alert: Delaware Financial Group - Canadian Advance Fee Loan Scam Connected to Vancouver Trust Company
August 24, 2005
Deleware Financial Group advertises on the Internet, where it states: “ Our headquarters are located in Seattle, Washington where we began more than 50 years ago.” Neither the Washington State Department of Revenue nor the Office of the Secretary of State show that Deleware Financial Group is authorized to do business in Washington State. The company is not licensed by the Department of Financial Institutions to lend money in Washington. Deleware Financial Group’s website lists an address in Seattle, Washington. However, the building manager states that Deleware Funding Group has never been located at the stated address and is not a tenant. The company’s website was registered by an individual in Athabasca, Alberta, Canada. There is no evidence that Deleware Funding Group has ever been located in or has any connection to Washington. So much for that claim!
The company also claims to provide personal, home, auto, commercial and debt consolidation loans. After applying for a loan, providing financial information and proof of identification, such as checking account number, driver’s license and social security number, the consumer receives telephone notification that the loan has been approved. The consumer is asked to send an upfront fee or an insurance premium to Canada prior to getting any money. Once Deleware Financial Group receives the money, the consumer never gets the loan. This appears to be another Canadian advance fee loan scam and may also involve identity theft.
A consumer has reported that he filled out the application from the Vancouver Trust Company’s website, but the confirmation came from Deleware Financial Group, so these two scams appear to be connected. Please read our earlier Alert regarding Vancouver Trust Company.
