Dave Harding Finance Inc.
Advance Fee Loan Scam Targeting Washington Residents
April 21, 2011
The Washington State Department of Financial Institutions is warning consumers to verify the license of any lending professional they are considering doing business with. You can verify a license with the Washington Department of Financial Institutions online at www.dfi.wa.gov or by calling 1-877-RING DFI (1-877-746-4334).
Dave Harding Finance Inc. sends “spam” emails offering personal loans at an interest rate of 3%, with “flexible repayment over 5-10 years, bad credit okay”, in amounts of “$5,000 to $500,000, without collateral.” The sender may be operating an advance fee loan scam. An advance fee scam is when you are asked asked to pay a fee for the promise of a loan or credit and then never receive the product promised.
The emails may come from different email addresses with different individual’s names attached: for example, Karen Knowles at email@example.com. The sender purports to work for Dave Harding Finance Inc., and also states that the contact person is “Mr. Dave W. Harding, Chairman.” The email lists contact phone numbers of (206) 801-1831 and (206)984-2816. These phone numbers are unpublished numbers and if called, do not reach Mr. Dave W. Harding or Dave Harding Finance Inc.
Not Licensed To Provide Loans
Dave Harding Finance Inc. claims to have an address of 16218 Pacific Avenue S. Ste B-3, Spanaway, Washington 98387. This address is in fact the location of an Allied Home Mortgage Corp. branch. Allied Home Mortgage Corp. is a licensed consumer loan company that is not affiliated with Dave Harding Finance Inc. or Karen Knowles. Dave Harding Finance Inc. also claims to have a Washington Consumer Loan license (license number CL-55711); this is a license number formerly assigned to Allied Home Mortgage Corp. and is neither a current license number in use by the Department, nor is it a legitimate license number for Dave Harding Finance Inc. Dave Harding Finance Inc. is not licensed by the Department of Financial Institutions to lend money in Washington.
Dave Harding Finance Inc. is not registered to do business in Washington by the Department of Licensing, the Department of Revenue or the Secretary of State. It appears that the sender of this email is using a forged email address from a server located overseas.
The Department strongly recommends consumers only deal with consumer loan companies that are properly licensed by the Department of Financial Institutions to conduct such business.
